Atrium Plant Installation Project on West Cliff Dr in Santa Cruz, CA
This is a project that we completed recently in Santa Cruz, CA. It is a center atrium for a condo complex in West Cliff Dr about ten steps from the sand and rocks along the beach. The area was all dirt and very plain when we began the design. It is roughly a twenty by twenty square foot space that was in need of something special and within budget. We started with a design that would include a couple tall growing species of plants and trees as well as a couple drought tolerant ground cover species. New soil was brought in and commercial grade weed barrier.
Plants used were, Australian Tree Ferns, Fuchsia, Camellias, Blue Fescue, Ginger and Echeverria Succulents. We added a drip system which involved cutting a trench through the concrete for access to a water source with the pipes. Once the plants were added we completed the job with a cobble stone dry creek and stray driftwood from the local beach. Gorilla hair mulch was the final topping and we had a happy customer. It was fun and the residents were heavily involved with the selection process to keep individual interests in mind.
